Real results, no exaggeration
The internet is full of whitening before-and-afters that look done with Photoshop. We prefer to be straight: professional whitening works and the results are visible. But not all teeth respond the same, and not all cases are candidates.
At Clínica Dental Sancho we first assess whether whitening is what you need, explain what result you can realistically expect and do it safely, without compromising the enamel. We have been in Barcelona for more than 35 years and we know that honesty builds more loyalty than the impossible promise.

Teeth whitening works through chemical agents —usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide— that penetrate the enamel and break down the molecules that cause stains. The result is a lighter shade that can be maintained for years with the right care.
The difference between professional whitening and pharmacy products isn't just the price: it's the concentration of the active agent, the control of the process and the protection of the gums. Poorly applied whitening can cause severe sensitivity or damage the enamel. Done correctly, it's a safe and effective treatment.
In a single session of about an hour, with immediate visible results. We use a light or laser to activate the whitening agent. The fastest option for those who want to see the change from day one.
With custom trays and low-concentration gel to use at home over several weeks. More gradual, but very effective. Ideal for those who prefer to do it conveniently and at their own pace.
We start in the clinic and continue at home to maximise and prolong the result. The option that gives the most complete and long-lasting results.
Whitening is one of the treatments that generates the most questions, partly because the market is full of exaggerated promises. Here's the real answer:
We check the state of your teeth and gums before doing anything. If there's decay or periodontal problems, we treat those first. We also assess the current shade and explain how many shades you can realistically expect to gain.
Before whitening we do a cleaning to remove tartar and surface stains. Whitening works much better on a clean tooth.
If it's in-clinic, we protect the gums with a barrier, apply the gel and activate the process. If it's at-home, we take the measurements to make your custom trays and explain exactly how and how long to use them.
We give you guidelines to prolong the result as long as possible: which foods to avoid in the first few days, how to maintain the shade over time and when a maintenance session may be useful.
Professional whitening, done well and with the right products, doesn't damage the enamel. What can cause damage is using high-concentration products without supervision or overdoing the frequency. That's why it's important to do it with clinical supervision, not with unsupervised third-party kits.
During the in-clinic process some sensitivity can appear, which is normal and temporary. In the first few days after the treatment the teeth may be more sensitive to cold and heat. With the right protocol and the products we recommend, this sensitivity is manageable and goes away within a few days.
With good habits —reducing coffee, red wine and tobacco, and keeping good hygiene— the result can last between 1 and 3 years. The shade will gradually return over time, but it can be maintained with periodic touch-up sessions.
It depends on the starting point and the type of staining. In typical cases, the result is between 2 and 8 shades lighter. We explain it at the prior assessment so you have realistic expectations.
It depends on the option: in-clinic, at-home or combined. We give you the quote at the first visit. There are no surprises or hidden costs. Contact us for an assessment.
Whitening lightens only natural teeth, not artificial materials like fillings, crowns or veneers. If you have visible restorations, that needs to be taken into account: after whitening it may be necessary to update those restorations so the shade is uniform. We explain it before starting.
Whitening isn't the most complex treatment we do. But for many people it's the one with the most impact on how they feel when they smile. A brighter shade changes the perception of the whole face.
If you've been thinking about it for a while, the first consultation has no commitment. We assess your case, tell you what to expect and you decide calmly.
